CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Roads is part of humanity’s return to the Moon with Artemis III’s launching in 2027, as Andre Douglas, who grew up in Chesapeake, is one of four NASA astronauts taking part in the mission.
Douglas described how he’s preparing for his first trip to space.
“We actually just finished a really cool training that deals with egress,” Douglas said. “So we learn how to basically get out of the capsule when it splashes down after entry, and we have to figure out there’s a couple different configurations we need to do. We need to get out the side hatch or the top hatch. We could also potentially be turned upside down and figure out how to go out the top hatch to the bottom.”…
