The eye of Hurricane Marie may be hundreds of miles offshore, but Southern California will still feel its impact with high surf, coastal flooding and the potential for rain over the holiday weekend.
Marie has reached Category 2 strength with sustained winds of 100 mph as it tracks north and west of the Baja California Peninsula. The cone of uncertainty does not include California, and forecasters do not expect the storm to make landfall in the state.
However, meteorologists say the storm’s outer bands could bring rain to the region, including Los Angeles County, on Saturday and Sunday.
“Rainfall totals as a whole will be less than a half of an inch (probably under a quarter of an inch where most people live), focused across L.A. County, isolated higher amounts will be possible, especially coastal facing mountains,” the National Weather Service said in its daily bulletin…
