Law enforcement agencies launch 2026 ‘Hands Across the Border’ traffic safety operation

Law enforcement officers from across Alabama and Tennessee gathered Friday evening to kick off the 2026 “Hands Across the Border” traffic safety initiative, aiming to curb dangerous driving and prevent deadly crashes along shared state lines.

Roughly 50 officers representing multiple agencies, including the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the Tennessee Highway Patrol and municipal police departments, held a joint press conference at Flint River Baptist Church in Hazel Green at 5 p.m. to outline their coordinated strategy.
