Delray Beach residents demand cemetery accountability

Delray Beach residents are demanding accountability from city leaders over deteriorating maintenance conditions at Delray Beach Memorial Gardens, where faded headstones, damaged graves, cracked roads, and overgrown weeds have sparked public outcry at city commission meetings and community events.

The city-owned cemetery, which contains tombs dating back to the 1800s, has become the center of heated community debate after residents raised concerns about years of apparent neglect at the historic burial ground.

Families Express Frustration Over Cemetery Neglect

Judy Morris, who has 10 family members buried at Delray Beach Memorial Gardens and visits her late mother’s grave twice daily, said the deteriorating conditions reflect broader neglect of the community cemetery.

“We’re being neglected out here at the cemetery. Why? I don’t know why,” Morris told WPTV. “We should not have weeds growing all out. The grass needs to be upkept. I know they only have a couple of people working out here but the maintenance people should be out here doing what they supposed to be doing.”…
