To ‘Live Comfortably’ In Indiana, Hoosiers Need A Salary Most Don’t Earn

INDIANAPOLIS – A recent study by Smart Asset examined the minimum salary U.S. citizens needed to earn in order to “live comfortably” in each state, including Indiana, and its results may have come to a depressing conclusion – only a small percentage of Americans can afford to do so.

As the cost of groceries, gas and other necessities continues to rise, the study determined a single adult in mid-2026 needs to make roughly $81,000 – $129,000 a year to lead a comfortable lifestyle in the U.S.

And if you’re a family of four? Smart Asset determined full-time workers needed to bring in about $187,500 to $313,000 a year…
