CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — The Florida Department of Health in Citrus County announced Saturday its first confirmed case of dengue fever.
According to the DOH, dengue can present as a flu-like illness with severe muscle aches and joint pain, fever, and sometimes a rash. There are usually no respiratory symptoms.
Health officials said dengue fever is not contagious but is transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti mosquito. Symptoms appear within 15 days after being bitten.
