PORTLAND, Ore. — About 200 Boeing engineers and technicians near Portland could join SPEEA’s first strike at Boeing since 2000 after members rejected a four-year contract offer.
Boeing Faces Possible Strike
The labor union Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) announced the results of a vote on a Boeing offer on Friday. M
ore than 95% of eligible professional-unit members and nearly 93% of technical-unit members cast valid ballots. Across the US:
- Engineers rejected the offer 64.25% to 35.75%.
- Technical workers rejected it 71.87% to 28.13%.
- Engineers authorized a possible strike with 87.82% support.
- Technical workers authorized a possible strike with 89.71% support.
SPEEA blamed mistrust involving offshoring, disappearing jobs, salaries trailing inflation, and technical decisions being ignored.
Portland Boeing Workers Could be Affected by Possible Boeing Strike
The vote was unionwide, with no Oregon-only results released, but the survey covered roughly 200 employees who work near Portland. Any strike would affect Portland-area engineers and technicians covered by the same contracts.
