COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Colorado Springs Fire Department and Colorado Parks and Wildlife are reminding the public to keep their belongings and trash secured after a bear walked into a fire station and grabbed a gear bag.
Colorado Springs firefighters said they believe the bear was “Smokey the Bear,” who walked into the bay at Station 16, grabbed one of their gear bags and ran away.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife gives a few tips to keep your belongings secure, as black bears are a “stomach with a nose” trying to bulk up for the winter.
- Keep food and trash secured.
- Take down bird feeders.
- Keep pet food inside.
- Keep grills clean.
- Put out trash on pick-up day only.
If you encounter a bear, Colorado Parks and Wildlife says to make loud noises to scare them off and make any encounter with humans “uncomfortable for them.”…
