WESTERN WASHINGTON — Those on the west side of the Cascades in Washington state are being told to enjoy the clean air this evening, as wildfire smoke is set to return to the region tomorrow. Most of the smoke is expected to remain aloft, though some is forecast to filter down to the surface as well.
Clean Air Expected This Evening Before Smoke Returns
Air quality across the west side of the Cascades, including Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia, is currently clear as of Saturday evening. This stretch of clean air is expected to be short-lived, with wildfire smoke forecast to move back into the region starting Sunday.
Communities including Bellingham, Marysville, and Mount Vernon are also included in the area expected to see a return of smoky conditions as the pattern shifts heading into the new day.
Most Smoke Expected to Remain Aloft Over the Region
While most of the incoming wildfire smoke is expected to stay aloft rather than reaching the surface, some filtering down to ground level is anticipated across portions of Western Washington. This could lead to hazy skies even where surface air quality remains relatively unaffected.
