Brownsburg took the first step toward allowing adults to carry alcoholic beverages through portions of downtown after the town council approved the first reading of a proposed Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, or DORA, Aug. 13.
The proposed DORA would establish a defined area where people 21 and older could purchase alcoholic beverages from participating businesses and carry them outdoors while shopping or attending events. The ordinance still requires additional readings before it can take effect.
Anna Ziebell, the town’s economic development specialist, told council members the district could provide another tool for downtown businesses and event organizers. Six businesses inside the proposed boundaries and four outside the boundaries have indicated interest in participating, she said…
