Amarillo urges more water conservation as reservoir drops, nearing Stage 2 drought rules

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Amarillo city leaders are urging residents, businesses and schools to cut back on outdoor water use as the city tries to avoid moving into Stage 2 mandatory drought restrictions for the first time.

The city activated Stage 1 drought restrictions last week after its reservoir fell to 60% of capacity. Under the voluntary plan, residents and businesses are asked to follow an odd-even outdoor watering schedule, avoid watering on Saturdays and limit irrigation to between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
