DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) — Dubuque County’s landfill has never received 40 million pounds of trash from one project, but the site’s administrator says it would be ready.
Google and QTS data center construction in Cedar Rapids sent 40 million pounds of trash to the Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency landfill over the last year.
Spools with conduits and wiring, as well as materials such as wood and metal that could be recycled are instead taking up landfill space, according to the agency.
Waste impact estimated at 10% of annual intake
Ken Miller, the administrator of the Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency, said if a data center was built in the county and produced a similar level of waste as Linn County saw last year, that would be about 10% of the Dubuque County landfill’s annual intake…
