CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — The Cherokee County justice center is closed until further notice, according to a judicial emergency order issued by a judge. The move comes just days after a hazardous leak prompted an evacuation.
The Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office shared the order on social media. The judicial emergency is declared from August 21, when the hazardous materials incident occurred, until Aug. 28.
According to the Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, crews responded to the Frank C. Mills III Justice Center on Friday around 1:20 p.m. after a smoke alarm activated. The first units that arrived at the scene saw smoke in the building, and crews searched to see if anyone was inside or to see if there was a fire. No fire was found.
