Food insecurity is rising in the North Country. According to new data gathered by the Regional Food Bank based in Albany, it’s climbed by 14% since July, 2025.
The increased cost of groceries, gas, housing, and utilities, as well as cuts to federal programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), is cascading into families’ budgets. Tens of thousands of people in the North Country, including nearly 20% of children, are struggling to find their next meal.
The Regional Food Bank covers the eastern portion of the North Country and Adirondacks, including Franklin, Essex, Clinton, Washington, and Warren counties.
