OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Omaha City Council rejected a proposal to lower property taxes, voting 3-4. The resolution needed five votes in support to pass.
The proposal called for lowering the property tax levy by 75 cents. The plan aimed to raise expected revenue from sales tax to make up for reduced revenue from property taxes. The total budget would stay about the same, but the source of the money would change.
The City Finance Department and three council members requested the resolution.
