MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Madera Unified might be one of the country’s healthiest districts to raise kids in, according to a series of awards they just received.
Alliance for a Healthier Generation, which ranks America’s Healthiest Schools annually, recognized every single school within Madera Unified for keeping kids healthy. Some of them, like Matilda Torres High School, checked every box.

According to the Alliance, the school went above and beyond in nine categories: school health services, wellness policy, nutrition and food access, physical education, health education, social-emotional health and learning, being a certified tobacco-free campus, family and community engagement, and staff well-being.
Madera South came in close second, lacking only in staff well-being, and Cesar Chavez Elementary School came in third.
