New director set to start as Madison County prepares first public defender’s office

MADISON CO., Ala. (WAFF) – Chad Morgan will become the director of Madison County’s first ever public defender’s office, starting the job next Tuesday.

Currently, the Madison County court system appoints privately practicing attorneys to represent indigent defendants. That will change once Morgan’s office opens.

Morgan told WAFF 48 he expects to hire up to 36 public defenders along with about two dozen support staff…
