Lunar eclipses happen at least twice a year, but Kansas City won’t experience another one like this until 2029. And yes, you’ll have to stay up late to catch it.
A partial lunar eclipse is set to take over the Kansas City night sky Thursday, covering almost the entirety of the moon. At its peak in some areas, around 96% of the lunar surface will be covered by Earth’s shadow, illuminating only a slim section of the moon, according to Space.com.
