VANCOUVER, Wash. — The Vancouver City Council approved an increase to the city’s sales tax on Monday evening to help pay for new public safety positions.
The 0.1% increase will push the total sales tax in Vancouver to 9%. Councilors approved it in a 6-1 vote, with Councilor Diana Perez the only opposing vote.
The revenue, estimated to raise about $6 million a year, will combine with a $100 million state grant and a slight property tax hike to bankroll about 13 police officers, as well as support staff and public defenders…
