HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — After a pleasant start to the week, The Weather Authority will be monitoring radar trends Wednesday afternoon for storms.
A cluster of storms to the northwest of the area will continue to track southeast into our region. We will be closely monitoring the interaction between that cluster and a warm front pushing northward.
The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted the majority of the area under a ‘Marginal Risk’ (level 1 out of 5) for storm development. The environment along and west of I-65 will be most favorable for strong to severe storm development. We will also need to monitor storm movement, as backbuilding cells will support heavy rain and a localized flooding threat.
We will begin to see cloud cover build by midday. Showers and storms will start to form by mid-afternoon and continue into the evening hours. One item to watch will be the evolution of the cluster of storms. If it can maintain its strength and structure, then the storm threat will increase.
The strongest storms that can form will be capable of producing strong winds over 40 mph, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rain.
