The officer pulled Memon over near NE 5th Avenue and East Atlantic Avenue and noticed his eyes were red and glossy, his speech was slurred, and there was a strong smell of alcohol coming from him, according to the arrest report. Memon was alone in the car and allegedly admitted he’d had “a couple drinks,” police said. Once he was out of the vehicle, he had trouble just standing still. The officer had him walk a straight line, balance on one leg and recite the alphabet — routine roadside checks — but he couldn’t get through any of them cleanly, the report states. His speech was so slurred, the officer wrote, that it was hard to understand what he was saying.
From there, Memon was taken to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office breath-testing facility, where he blew a .194 and then a .197, according to police — nearly two and a half times Florida’s .08 legal limit. That level pushes the charge up to DUI with a blood alcohol content of .15 or higher, which carries stiffer penalties than a standard DUI. Court paperwork lists this as his first offense.
Memon is scheduled to appear in a Delray Beach courtroom on September 24 at 8:30 a.m. As always, an arrest is just an accusation — Memon has not been convicted of anything, and he is presumed innocent unless and until a court says otherwise…
