Shelley Fabares, beloved actress known for her memorable roles on The Donna Reed Show, One Day at a Time, and Coach, passed away on Saturday, August 22, at the age of 82.
Her family revealed that pneumonia was the cause of her death. Fabares had previously been diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis and underwent a liver transplant in 2000.
She died peacefully in Los Angeles, surrounded by loved ones, including her husband, MASH* star Mike Farrell, and her two stepchildren, Erin and Michael.
In a heartfelt statement, her family described her as “a source of love, strength, laughter, and comfort.” They highlighted her many roles as a devoted wife, cherished stepmother, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, and loyal friend. Aside from her celebrated television work, she experienced brief success as a singer during her time on The Donna Reed Show, with her 1961 hit “Johnny Angel” reaching number one. She also starred alongside Elvis Presley in three films: Girl Happy (1965), Spinout (1966), and Clambake (1967).
Her family summed up her legacy by noting that while she brought talent, intelligence, and warmth to every performance, her greatest impact was deeply personal-the love she freely gave, the friendships she treasured, and the strong family bonds she nurtured.
