‘Touched the lives of so many’: Lincoln Park Zoo snow leopard dies following rapid health decline

CHICAGO — Caretakers at the Lincoln Park Zoo are mourning the loss of one of their snow leopards.

According to officials from the zoo, the snow leopard, named Ozzy, died after suffering a rapid deterioration in his health this week.

Following the rapid deterioration in his health, staff members conducted extensive diagnostic testing, including advanced imaging in consultation with their partners at MedVet, and say they provided intensive supportive care during Ozzy’s final days.

“Ozzy touched the lives of so many, both guests and staff alike, and quickly became a favorite of every keeper who had the honor of working with him,” said Curator of Mammals Cassy Kutilek. “He had a stoic yet playful personality that was a perfect balance to his mate Kennedi’s exuberance.”

Zoo officials said Ozzy was born in 2018 at Rosamond Gifford Zoo in New York and arrived at Lincoln Park Zoo in 2021, in conjunction with the opening of the Pepper Family Wildlife Center…
