HBCU Labor Day Classic Battle of the Bands Arrives in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Get ready for the upcoming HBCU Labor Day Classic Battle of the Bands! The event prepares to take over Jackson.

A Historic Lineup of Talent

For only the second time ever, ten of the world’s premier HBCU marching bands will gather to face off in an electrifying, high-energy battle of soul, precision, and showmanship. This year’s all-star lineup includes:

  • Southern University
  • Mississippi Valley State University
  • Alcorn State University
  • Tuskegee University
  • Langston University
  • University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB)
  • Talladega College
  • Grambling State University
  • Jackson State University (hometown favorites!)
  • Bethune-Cookman University (making their first-ever appearance in Jackson!)

More Than Just a Competition: Weekend Events

Scheduled for Sunday, September 6, 2026, the Battle of the Bands is the centerpiece of a full weekend celebrating HBCU excellence. Attendees can look forward to:

  • Fan Fest & Tailgate: The pre-show hub featuring live music, food, and community vibes (free with RSVP).
  • Step Shows: High school and collegiate step teams trading sets in a display of precision and pride.
  • Majorettes & Dance Crews: Spectacular routines bringing the flair and formations of J-Settes style showmanship.
  • Local Culture: A fan village filled with Black-owned vendors, diverse food trucks, giveaways, and special celebrity guest appearances.
