100-year-old Lexington woman marks nearly 60 years entering Kentucky State Fair

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A 100-year-old Lexington woman has entered items in the Kentucky State Fair’s antique competition since 1966.

Elsie Schlich has been going to the Kentucky State Fair for nearly a century. She has watched it change, from packing picnic lunches when food vendors were not part of the experience, to making new memories with her family at the fair today.

A tradition that began in 1966

Schlich said her tradition of entering the fair’s antique competition began in 1966. She was inspired by her aunt, who owned an antique shop, and had entered items in previous competitions.

“And it was 1966. So I put that little lamp in the fair and won a blue ribbon. So that started the whole thing,” Schlich said…
