The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe will be hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on Saturday morning, September 12, 2026, starting at 9 with the walk starting at 10:15. The event will be held at Margaritaville on Lake Conroe. Michael Fields with RCLC told me, “At 10:15, our walk will begin with a short Remembrance Ceremony. Mike Fuller, husband of this year’s Honoree, Joan Fuller, will start “The Walk for Us.” After a fierce 1-year battle with Breast Cancer, Joan’s Spirit peacefully took flight in 2025. We will have a comfortably paced short 15-minute stroll on the walkway along the lagoon to the St. Somewhere Spa and back. We will be led by a surprise guest or two. Along the way, we will have rest stops and a joyous atmosphere. Wheelchairs and walkers are welcome since Margaritaville is handicapped compliant.” Funds from this event will benefit breast cancer patients. This event is co-sponsored by the Rotary club of Lake Conroe, Faith Fighting Cancer in Montgomery County, and The 5 o’clock Phlock Parrot Head Club.
Interact Clubs at Conroe High School and Washington High School will be sponsoring a Walk on Saturday, October 24th to raise fund for the Polio Plus program ushered in by Rotary International. Rotarians worldwide took up the fight in 1985 when Polio was eradicated by local Rotarians. New Polio cases have diminished from 350,000 cases of paralysis to only 22 so far this year. Those cases are in the rural areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan where there are no public wastewater collection and treatment systems. Polio is a water-borne disease with untreated wastewater being a conductor of the Polio virus. Rotary’s goal is to have no new cases of Polio for three consecutive years. When that happens, Polio will be considered to be fully eradicated. At that time, let the celebrations begin!
The Rotary Club of Conroe was treated to a very moving presentation by Conroe Police Chief Jon Buckholtz. Jon told Rotarians about the daily lives and the stress that Police Officers experience daily in their 12-hour shifts. These Police Officers experience the emotionality of the victims they help and see the atrocities with their own eyes. The stress is high in this line of work.
