HAMPTON, Va. – A Hampton woman scratched a Virginia Lottery ticket while sitting in her car outside a Food Lion — and suddenly found herself staring at a prize worth $6 million over 30 years.
The woman had purchased a Set for Life scratch-off ticket at the Food Lion at 3855 Kecoughtan Road in Hampton. After uncovering the game’s top prize of $200,000 a year for 30 years, she was so stunned that she headed back inside the supermarket to show the manager.
The store manager examined the ticket and congratulated her, according to the Virginia Lottery. The winner ultimately passed on the 30-year payout and instead chose a one-time cash option of $3,114,000 before taxes.
