VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Calling it a “historic commitment,” Dr. Mehmet Oz announced Virginia has received $122 million to invest in expanding access to healthcare care to rural areas.
The former heart surgeon-turned TV host and now Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services administrator touted the funding in Virginia Beach Friday. He was at Tidewater Community College for a roundtable discussion on healthcare alongside Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-Virginia Beach.)
Oz explained the funding will be used to help bring more healthcare services closer to where people live by investing in remote patient monitoring, rural residency and provider training slots, community paramedicine, maternal care and mobile/hybrid care models.
