City of Kansas City extends Southwest Trafficway lane closures after street collapse

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The City of Kansas City announced that all southbound lanes along Southwest Trafficway will remain closed as officials continue working to repair a street collapse in the area.

A portion of Southwest Trafficway between 29th Street and Interstate 35 collapsed on Wednesday, leaving a large hole in the left southbound lane of the roadway.

Since Wednesday, the city has launched an investigation into the collapse to find out what may have caused it.

“KC Water is urging the public to avoid the area whenever possible and use alternate routes,” the city shared in a release Thursday evening. “Drivers should expect significant delays and follow all posted traffic control devices.”…
