In just a little more than six weeks, professional chefs, home cooks and barbecue teams will make their way to Indianapolis for the World Food Championships (WFC), the world’s largest live “food sport” culinary competition.
The WFC has drawn competitors from every U.S. state and nearly 40 countries since its debut in 2012. But you’ll also see plenty of local chefs from some of your favorite restaurants competing in a number of categories. Sanctioned qualifying events have been happening all year for competitors to earn their Golden Tickets and secure their place in Kitchen Arena.
And that arena is right here in Indianapolis at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Teams will start rolling in to the Indiana State Farm Fall Creek Pavilion for registration on Oct. 14, with the preliminary rounds starting Thursday morning, Oct. 15. And it’s all open to the public.
