Hazmat crews investigate potential gas leak in Middletown area; evacuations ordered

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Fire crews and hazardous materials teams are investigating a possible gas leak at a home in San Diego’s Middletown neighborhood, officials confirmed Saturday afternoon.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department responded shortly before11:40 a.m. to a residence in the 1230 block of West Spruce Street, where crews reported a strong smell consistent with a gas leak.

A hazardous materials response is underway as firefighters investigate the source of the odor.
