While many commercial businesses and social media accounts may have declared fall’s beginning the moment that August began, there’s a different date that meteorologists follow for the start of fall. That’s Tuesday, September 1.
Meteorological seasons are always broken up into 3-month increments. They always start on the same dates every year, and they also end on the same dates (except for leap years, which only pertain to the end of meteorological winter as the last day of February). For example, meteorological summer begins every year on June 1 and ends on August 31.
Meteorological fall always begins on September 1. It runs through November 30. Meteorological winter then begins on December 1 every year.
