The 56th annual Marcus Garvey Celebration took place at Harlem Square Park on Aug. 15. In honor of Garvey’s legacy, the West Baltimore community joined together for a day of fun, fellowship and education.
Charles Dugger, one of the original organizers of the celebration which began in 1971, kicked off the event by addressing the crowd and thanked them for continuing to show up every year. Later, in an interview with the AFRO, Dugger spoke on the most important aspects of the festival.
“My favorite part is friendship and fellowship,” he said. “Showing the younger generation that we can come together–not hollering and screaming, not being foolish and loud–just being human.”…
