Sylvester Stallone has shared heartfelt memories and praised his late Rhinestone co-star Dolly Parton, reflecting on their time together and the impact she had on him.
Parton, the beloved singer, songwriter, and philanthropist, passed away on August 25 at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer, her family announced. Tributes poured in from fans and fellow celebrities honoring her remarkable seven-decade career. She was laid to rest beside her husband, Carl Dean, who died earlier this year.
Stallone, also 80, who starred alongside Parton in the 1984 romantic comedy-musical Rhinestone, took to Instagram to express his admiration. In a video message, he recalled her warmth and intelligence, describing how she greeted every crew member on set with a friendly “Hi, y’all,” earning universal affection.
He shared a fond anecdote about a visit to a Tennessee horse farm during filming, where they climbed onto a Tennessee Walking Horse together before it stumbled, prompting laughter and a lighthearted suggestion to try again.
“I miss you, Dolly. I love you. Sad,” Stallone concluded his tribute.
In the caption, he added, “It’s hard to imagine a world without Dolly Parton. An American icon and a brilliant woman, beloved by so many. I have many fond memories of our time on the set of Rhinestone.”
Their relationship endured for decades, despite a notable disagreement on set. In her 1994 autobiography, Parton recounted an incident during a cold overnight shoot when they encountered a man shivering near trash bins.
Parton attempted to give him her shawl, but Stallone objected harshly, calling the man “scum” and suggesting he hadn’t made something of himself. Parton rebuked Stallone sharply, reminding him that the man’s fate could have easily been his own “except by the grace of God.”
The encounter reportedly moved Stallone to bring the man a blanket the following day.
Though Rhinestone was not a commercial success, the pair maintained their fondness for each other over the years. Parton’s funeral took place privately on August 28 at Nashville’s Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum, where she was laid to rest beside her husband.
