A 33-year-old man was shot near Washington Park in West Atlanta on Saturday morning after what he told investigators was an argument with other people, leaving him wounded but alert as officers detained an armed man at the scene. Atlanta police officers responded to a shooting call at 102 Ollie St. NW shortly after 10:20 a.m., arriving to find the man wounded and a gun-carrying suspect already in custody.
The wounded man was alert, conscious and breathing when he was loaded into an ambulance and taken to the hospital, according to police cited by WSB-TV. He told investigators he had been in an argument with other people before the shooting. Officers detained a man who was carrying a gun, and K-9 units and crime scene technicians collected the weapon along with additional evidence as they inspected the location.
Real-time public safety alerts from the Citizen app added tactical detail to the scene, indicating the victim was shot in the leg before seeking shelter at a nearby house, and that officers detained an armed suspect connected to a Dodge Durango, according to Citizen. Police have said the incident remains under investigation, and it is not yet clear whether the detained man will face charges.
