BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)- Botetourt County officials cleared Google to begin grading on a planned data center.
A land disturbance permit was issued for the 312-acre site, located inside the Botetourt Center at Greenfield. The permit does not impact any federal or state permit requirements currently under review. Officials said the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will oversee several environmental permits.

The county permit requires no wetlands to be disturbed. Contractors are allowed to use military-style “dry support bridges” for temporary access across the wetlands. The permit also requires appropriate erosion and sediment control and stormwater management.
County officials expect intermittent blasting during site preparation, which is regulated by the Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.
