Downtown Sarasota merchants, residents make posters ahead of parking workshop

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Downtown merchants and residents gathered to make posters ahead of Monday’s city parking workshop, aiming to make their voices heard through signage since public comment will not be allowed at the meeting.

Community respond after open house

The community left the city’s Aug. 24 parking open house feeling disappointed. This time, they are making sure their message gets across even without public comment.

“They said we weren’t allowed to speak because it’s a workshop, but we are going to let them know we are there with our signage,” said Jim Reese, a resident.

The signs protest the city’s parking program. One resident making a poster worked downtown for eight years. She said she has witnessed heightened enforcement firsthand, even raising it with parking staff about events and holidays…
