HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — An Owensboro student took home a big honor from Kansas City.
Cadet Kassi Hurt took home the Air Force Sergeants Association National Cadet Noncommissioned Officer Of the Year Award at the Civil Air Patrol National Conference in Kansas City on Saturday. Kassi competed against around 33,000 cadets across the nation for the award.
According to Air Force Sergeants Association officials, the award is meant to recognize deserving cadets who demonstrate outstanding qualities in military leadership, discipline, character and citizenship. Officials say during Wilderness First Aid training, she organized study groups forstruggling classmates, helping achieve a 100% success rate and demonstrating her dedication to the success of others.
Kassi is the first student in the Tri-State to earn this award. She is a senior at Apollo High School and serves as the commander of their Air Force JROTC Squadron. She is also a part of the Civil Air Patrols KY223 Unit located in Owensboro…
