Former Columbus County Pastor Faces Charges for Allegedly Stealing $58K From Church

Devin Cyrus Carroll was arrested. He faces 16 counts of embezzlement after authorities accused him of taking $57,934.13 from Happy Home Baptist Church in Columbus County. According to WECT, the 23-year-old from Conway, South Carolina, was taken into custody on Wednesday, Aug. 26, and booked into the Columbus County Detention Center.

Arrest warrants say the alleged offenses happened in February 2024 during his time as a church employee. The accusations come about a year after his July 2025 arrest on charges of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old.

Authorities said Carroll used church funds to pay more than $42,000 to Advance America for an outstanding loan, according to WECT. The remaining $15,000 went toward restaurant visits, retail purchases, and other bills…
