Highway 501 widening project delayed until spring 2027, SCDOT says

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Highway 501 widening project will not be completed until next year, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

Crews are widening the highway from four lanes to six between Highway 544 and Myrtle Ridge Drive. The project is a joint effort between SCDOT and Horry County’s RIDE 3 program that began in September 2024.

The original contract set a completion date of November 30 of this year. SCDOT spokesperson Tyler Fedor said that date has changed to an expected Spring of 2027…
