BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Brunswick County Public Utilities will make its annual change from chloramines to chlorine to disinfect the water in October.
County officials said the change is part of an annual program that flushes water mains by briefly opening fire hydrants to clean out sediment and allow routine maintenance. Water may temporarily be discolored or contain sediment during flushing.
“Throughout the year, Brunswick County Public Utilities adds combined chlorine (in the form of chloramines) to the water as the primary disinfectant,” said the county in a press release. “During the annual flushing program, chlorine is added in an uncombined state, commonly referred to as free chlorine.”…
