More than fifteen years after an 11-month-old infant died from child abuse injuries in an Aurora home, police have arrested a 44-year-old man on first-degree murder charges.
Spiros Elias, of Burlington, Illinois, was taken into custody without incident on Aug. 21 by Aurora police investigators and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. The arrest stems from the Dec. 18, 2010, death of Michael Ortiz, an infant who lived with his mother and Elias on the 100 block of Cross Street.
First responders originally answered an emergency call at the residence on Dec. 17, 2010, finding the 11-month-old unconscious and not breathing. The boy was rushed to an Aurora hospital and later transferred to another medical facility, where he died the next day.
