Texas prepares for tropical storm threat as Houston faces heavy rain, flooding

Gov. Greg Abbott said Texas has activated state resources ahead of a tropical depression as the system threatens the Houston area with heavy rain, flash flooding and gusty winds beginning Tuesday.

“Use this as an opportunity to get prepared,” Abbott said at a news conference Monday. “This is the first tropical storm that Texas has faced this year. This is a good time for everyone to go through the mental and physical exercise of getting prepared for a storm like this.”
