A DeKalb County police officer was shot late Thursday night responding to a domestic incident involving an armed individual at an apartment complex, touching off an hours-long SWAT standoff that ended with a 23-year-old man in custody early Friday morning. The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment and later released the same day.
Officers were dispatched Thursday to the Reserve at Stone Creek Apartments at 1420 S. Hairston Road after reports of a domestic incident involving an armed individual, according to 11Alive. During the encounter, gunfire wounded an officer, according to FOX 5 Atlanta, which reported that a DeKalb officer was wounded.
Dozens of police units and the DeKalb County SWAT team converged on the complex, surrounding the unit where the suspect had barricaded himself. The standoff lasted through the overnight hours before officers took the man into custody, the same outlet reported.
