NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) — More than 3,000 tons of water flow over Niagara Falls every second. It’s a sight that attracts millions of tourists every year.
These views aren’t just powerful; they were inspiring to Nikola Tesla, who dreamed of capturing the power of Niagara and pioneered a form of electricity that remains current in the world today.
“He starts out with Edison, he wants to do more alternating current. Edison is kind of committed to direct current, so Tesla kind of branches off, and as he develops an alternating current, it really works out,” local tour guide Mike Casella said. “He is working with Westinghouse, and one of the sad things about this story is that when Tesla was working for Westinghouse, he thought he was going to do the right thing for mankind, and he sold the rights to Westinghouse for not very much money.”…
