Waymo Takes Next Step in Detroit. Unleashes Driverless Cars On Streets But Not Quite Ready for the Public to Ride

Waymo said Tuesday that its driverless cars are now navigating the streets of Detroit, but service is not yet available to the public. For now, only employees are getting rides.

Waymo’s posting on Instagram offered no date as to when the cars will start taking general passengers, but it encouraged prospective customers to download the Waymo app in advance of the actual launch in Detroit. The rides are expected to be more expensive than Uber and Lyft.
