Briggs Building’s rejuvenation nears completion

The Briggs Building at 333 W. First Ave. is believed to be the oldest wood-framed commercial structure in downtown Albany. Now it has a restored facade complete with a replica of the historic wooden cornice, and four new apartments.

It was in May 2023 that the Albany Landmarks Commission approved plans by owners Jim and Corina Abbott to restore the front of the building to the look when it was built in 1875. Now the work is close to completion.

One highlight came last week when a crane hoisted the building’s cornice into place. (See the photo at the bottom of this story.)…
