Expect an increase in congestion for two popular roadways connecting Houston’s downtown to the Katy Freeway.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced Monday the plan to temporarily close the eastbound and westbound HOV lanes connecting downtown to the Katy Freeway, with construction set for those two lanes set to begin on Friday.
The eastbound HOV lane heading from Katy toward downtown will now close beginning at Studemont Street, with an estimated reopening in Fall 2027. The westbound HOV lane from downtown toward Katy will now close at Franklin Street, with a reopening estimated for Summer 2028.
TxDOT said the closed HOV lanes are a continuation of the I-10 White Oak Bayou project, which will eventually include the demolition and construction of a new HOV lane for the Katy Freeway connecting to downtown…
