‘Once in a lifetime’: Train fans thrilled to catch a glimpse of Union Pacific’s Big Boy 4014 in NE Ohio

EUCLID, Ohio (WJW) — The world’s largest operating steam locomotive rolled through Northeast Ohio today, drawing hundreds hoping to catch a glimpse of a piece of American history.

Union Pacific’s Big Boy 4014 is making its first trip to the east coast as part of a nationwide tour celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

Hundreds gathered near the train tracks in Lorain and Euclid Monday to watch Union Pacific’s Big Boy 4014 roll through Northeast Ohio. The massive steam engine stretches more than 130 feet long and weighs about 1.2 million pounds. Now, it’s the world’s largest operating steam locomotive.

For just a few minutes on Monday, Northeast Ohio got a front-row seat to history in motion.
