MEDINA, Ohio – For the last 16 months, the Medina Fire Department has been staffed 24/7 and Fire Chief Larry Walters said he has seen a noticeable improvement on response times.
“Back in 2021 we were only staffing Monday through Friday,” Walters said at a health, safety and sanitation meeting June 8. “We started staffing over the weekends, so we had a first shift seven days a week.”
Walters said that without an overnight shift, response times late at night were often averaging 20 minutes. By February of 2025, the department began staffing the fire station 24 hours a day and they noticed response times often cut in half…
